Take the taste test to see if you qualify to be an ice cream taster.
If you scream for ice cream, then think about being an ice cream taster. You will invent new flavors and products, and ensure the quality of current products. But it is not all fun and games. You will have to know about ice cream and what constitutes a good product, including flavor. You might be required to act as the sales and marketing contact for the company, so be presentable!
A bachelors degree is necessary. The best majors include business, chemistry or food science. Don’t slack off when it comes to getting experience. Work in a ice cream store or at one of the ice cream stands that dot the roadsides during a New England summer. These provide some of the best experience because you will learn about how to operate the business and the practical side of how to make the ice cream and what customers want.
Try to do an internship at a big company where they make the ice cream. Learn all you can about marketing the product and what it takes to make, store and distribute it.
Take care of health so that your taste buds will be in top form. You must be able to distinguish among the nuances of ice cream flavors and textures. Stay clear of spicy foods, such as chili peppers.
Buy a gold spoon and conduct some taste tests of your own. A gold spoon is the best because it won’t interfere with the flavor. Tie a bandanna around your eyes and try to guess what flavor you are enjoying. When you are right nine times out of 10, grab your tasting spoon and head out the door to a fun scoop of a career! Vanilla or chocolate anyone? Or is strawberry your preference?
