Education is key to Future of Native American Reservations

Spend a short amount of time on any Native American Reservation and it will become crystal clear almost instantly that lack of education is hurting the future of tribal members.
With poverty levels at extreme highs, many Native American youth are unable to even dream about going to college. Without education, employment opportunities in an already jobless area become almost impossible.
Many Native American Reservations across the Dakotas have Tribal Colleges in place to further the education of their youth. While these Tribal Colleges offer an increase in education, they do not offer the real-world experiences that define the college experience. While the education standards are worthy, the real-world experiences of a four-year University offers experiences of working in a different culture. That experience would ultimately lead to real-world experience coming back to the Reservation to offer solutions to complicated problems.
Unemployment rates on the Indian Reservations in South Dakota like the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Reservations stand at nearly 80 percent. The two counties those Reservations reside, Shannon and Todd Counties are two of the poorest counties in the United States. If you don’t have a job with one of the school Districts or the Tribal Government you usually don’t have a job.
With so many uneducated adults, many tribal programs suffer with inadequate leaderships. The future and success of these tribes and these people rests in the hands of the youth obtaining an adequate education.
With no blueprint in place for successful college experiences, many Native American youth drop out before they complete their degrees. For those that do complete their education, employment opportunities are usually found outside the Reservation, further compounding the lack of educated people in these areas.
Young people on Reservations across the country do have college opportunities, but many fail to complete their schooling, and ultimately return to the Reservation to scratch out a living.

Although the job market is slowly starting improve, there are still a lot of people looking for work. One of the overlooked sources of jobs is temping – working as a temp. In the past, temp work was considered to be for administrative and clerical jobs. That is no longer the case. There is a growing demand for a wide range of professional and technical temp assignments. There are also a growing number of temp agencies that specialize in specific employment fields.

What makes temp employment so appealing to many people is the diversity of jobs, the flexibility and the exposure to different work environments. Many temp firms provide benefits – insurance, health and holidays. According to the American Staffing Association, up to 90 percent of temp firms also provide skills training and refresher courses. As many as 90 percent of all companies use temporary employees and according to Manpower, Inc., 40 percent of these employees are hired as permanent employees at companies they are temporarily assigned to work at.

While many job seekers look down their noses at temp employment, it is a growing field that should not be ignored in a job search. In 2008, US News.com reported that the McKinsey Quarterly cited hiring temps as the third top business trend in America. The trend has continued upward because companies continue to downsize and rely of temp employees to fill staffing gaps. Job seekers who opt to explore the temp option should research and use reputable agencies and register with several of them. With a positive attitude and a willingness to try new assignments, temp employment is a great option.

Education is Key to Your Employment Success

For many the years in college are a rite of passage. For those that are less secure financially, college can be a far away dream that is out of the grasp of reality.
It’s no secret that people that have college degrees are likely to be looked upon favorably by hiring executives. No degree means your resume goes to the bottom of the pile.
In today’s changing educational system, hire education doesn’t have to mean four years of college. Many technical schools offer Associates Degrees in just one or two years. If you’re interested in diesel mechanics, you can often have a certification in less than a year. Love the medical field, many technical colleges offer nursing degrees or dental hygienists degrees in less than two years.
For those just coming out of high-school with no money for college, options are available. Joining the military for a few years can be a great way to accrue enough money for a four-year college. Student loans, Pell Grants and scholarships are available for low-income families, but you have to be persistent in your quest for financial aid.
For those past the college years, 30 and above, going back to school can be a nightmare with kid’s and other responsibilities taking precedence. Before you nix the idea of going back to school, do some internet research that compares your current earnings with your potential earnings. If you find yourself looking at a net profit in about 10 years, going back to school might be just the career option you’ve been looking for.
Your employment future likely depends on your ability to acquire knowledge. That little Education line on the bottom or your resume looks so much better if it says graduated from college versus graduated from high school. Taking the time now to further your educations, will mean greater future earnings and the comfortable lifestyle you’ve always dreamed of.

If the job calls for casual attire, throw a shirt and tie into the mix or a nice skirt. Your appearance while not crucial every day is certainly something management notices.
2. Do more than is expected – If you do your job, no one notices. If you do more than you’re asked to do, after time management is going to notice. A good work history equates to faster promotions and ultimately employment security.
3. Interact with your immediate supervisors – Saying good morning and good night can go a long way towards creating a positive working relationship with your supervisors.
4. Show up to work on time – Nothing will inhibit your employment opportunities more than showing up to work late. If you’re a drinker, stop drinking during the week. Drinking tends to lead to a less productive work atmosphere and usually brings other problems to the workplace. Never drink at your work site.
5. Be accountable for your mistakes – Mistakes happen it’s part of the human experience. If you make a mistake talk to your supervisor immediately. Hiding your mistake can compound the problem and ultimately cause stress for your immediate supervisors.

Is College Necessary to Acquire High-Paying Jobs?

Fifty years ago a high-school diploma just about guaranteed that a person had enough experience to obtain good jobs. Twenty years ago it was thought a college education was the only way to ensure that you had a leg up on the competition.
In today’s high-priced four year college education experience some are questioning whether the cost of college is truly advantageous to obtaining a good job.
It might depend on the type of career you are entertaining. If you want to be a Broadcast Journalist, no one is going to hire you unless you have experience. The only way to gain this experience is to go to college to get the reps you need to be hired at an elite level.
If you are going to be a farmer, college might be a waste of time! Some young people in this field do get college educations, but many go to trade school for half the money and half the time while they acquire skills to do what they will need to do.
Many jobs require only an Associate’s Degree. With a change in technology, some students have turned to the web to get their education online. With lower tuition online, these students have far less college loans to pay off upon the completion of their degree.
There is no substitute for educations. Employers desire it, and you need it! If College tuition costs 20-thousand per year and you go four years, working at a $10 per hour job isn’t going to pay the bills when the student-loans come due.
Before you or your children enter any college or career decisions, it’s a good idea to look around and ask questions. Will I be able to get good jobs when I’m done? Can I get the same education at a technical school? What will my job market look like in five or ten years?

With our current stagnant economy, many professionals who thought they made a wise career choice are unemployed or making very little money.
Those in the real-estate field have found the jobs few and the commissions light. Real-estate tends to by cyclical anyway, but a stagnant economy has forced many of these professionals to throw in the towel on this field.
If you are a young person just on the verge of deciding what to do for the rest of your life, it’s probably a good idea to give this more thought that you would what movie you’re seeing on Saturday. 2. Avoid fields like newspapers – Good writers are always in demand, but jobs in newspapers are hard to come by. With other social media leading the way, newspapers may someday be the dinosaur that once brought the news to America.

Business degrees often give young people a great understanding of financial markets and give a broad-based education that allows them to work in numerous jobs.

In recent years, construction, retail, transportation and real-estate fields have all suffered. Many of these fields are cyclical and in the near future, all are likely to take off and become relevant again.
1. Healthcare professionals will always be in demand. Getting a degree in nursing or becoming a doctor almost guarantees employment for the next 30 years.
2. There is always going to be a high demand for education specialists. Typically an elementary or high-school teacher only needs to go to college for four years. Complete your degree, start teaching and your employment future looks bright.
3. Computer technology – No career is absolutely safe, but computers aren’t going away any time soon. Having specialized skills in the field of computers will ensure a solid employment history. Even if you’re not programming, many people make a fine living repairing computers for business and individuals.
When choosing a career or a field to study keep the following in mind.

Unemployment Rate May Be Low But Global Conditions Have Hurt America Very Hard

A lot has been said about the fact that unemployment in America has gone beyond 10% during the ongoing recession. Critics who have accused individuals of panicking to early point out that unemployment stood around 25% when the great depression stuck America in 1929. Well, as compared to the great depression, the current recession does not seem to be a very bad deal.

However, there is a huge difference in the impact of unemployment today as compared to the impact in the past. For starters, life has become a lot better in the past 80 years. Hence, more and more persons have taken it for granted that they will enjoy a happy and satisfactory life after completing their education.

Secondly, there were very few superpowers in the world when the great depression hit the global economy. Even today, there is only one superpower worth its name. However, there are many pretenders from Asia and South American countries. In such a scenario, a deep slump in the economy combined with unemployment can lead to serious problems.

Thirdly, globalization has spread all over the world and more and more individuals are taking opportunities to work and earn money in other countries. The internet and technological innovations has made this task a lot easier. Today, it is possible to outsource work to any Asian country without even stepping out of the office.

Needless to say, instances where individuals would have been employed because there was no other alternative have come down. Today, employers have the option of using a global pool of talent. Needless to say, this has increased the impact of recession.

Finally, there is a growing fear that uncontrolled unemployment combined with high fiscal deficit is going to lead to vicious cycle which will pull the economy into further stagnation. Since the Asian countries have already shown resilience, there is a growing fear that U.S. may lose its primacy to other countries because of unemployment.

Want To Retain Employees Better? Focus On Their Welfare As Well As Your Profits

If you behave like an employer who simply treats employees as assets to be exploited and convert it into money, then do not be surprised if your employees treat their jobs as nothing more than a means to earn their monthly salary. If you want commitment and a desire to do well in your employees, you will have to modify your terms and conditions accordingly.

If you start laying off employees at the first signs of economic trouble, then you can rest assured that your employees too will be interested in finding better jobs all the time. If you want employees to stick to you no matter how tough the conditions are, you too will have to stick with them. Rather than laying your employees off and trying to save profits, you should be prepared to four were your profits as long as it helps you create employee loyalty.

It is very important to identify those individuals who are working with you just for the money and those who are working with you because it is their future career option. You should try to regain the latter persons to the maximum extent possible.

If you have done your best and if you still are forced to get rid of employees to save money, then you should give your employees a chance to save their jobs. You can throw open a scheme where you invite suggestions from your employees to reduce costs. You can explain that the only other alternative will be to start cutting jobs.

You should listen to these schemes with an open mind and should be prepared to make the necessary changes. The point here is that you should indicate that you are trying to do your best to avoid cutting down on jobs. If you focus on these small points, you will find that your employees stay loyal to you when the conditions improve and there are better paying jobs available.

Cannot Find A Job? Start Earning Money On Your Own Until The Economy Improves

You cannot continue sitting idle at home just because you have not got a job, right? You will have to find ways to earn money so that your family’s finances do not suffer. You might have saved money and you may be in the position to continue searching for a job for the next few months without stressing your finances.

However, using your savings down to zero does not make sense. You never know how long the bad patch is going to last. Hence, you should start taking remedial action once you were making regular use of your savings for day to day expenses.

What steps should you take? You will have to identify some things that you are not comfortable doing. For example, you may not be comfortable going below a specific salary amount. Or, you may not be comfortable with a specific job profile. You should prepare this list and you should be prepared to do anything to continue earning money as long as it is not included in the list.

If you are not comfortable working for a low salary, you should not hesitate to become an entrepreneur instead. You may not have the skills necessary to become about an entrepreneur immediately. However, if you are prepared to work hard, you should not face any difficulty in keeping your self employed and earning sufficient money.

Do not focus on the monetary aspect of employment alone. You should also recognize that you need job satisfaction. If you do not enjoy this, chances are high that you will find excuses to quit despite the problems and complications that it entails.

Of course, if you know that you are most comfortable in a job, you should continue searching for jobs. However, make sure that there is some money trickling in so that your finances do not suffer in the long run.
