Spend a short amount of time on any Native American Reservation and it will become crystal clear almost instantly that lack of education is hurting the future of tribal members.
With poverty levels at extreme highs, many Native American youth are unable to even dream about going to college. Without education, employment opportunities in an already jobless area become almost impossible.
Many Native American Reservations across the Dakotas have Tribal Colleges in place to further the education of their youth. While these Tribal Colleges offer an increase in education, they do not offer the real-world experiences that define the college experience. While the education standards are worthy, the real-world experiences of a four-year University offers experiences of working in a different culture. That experience would ultimately lead to real-world experience coming back to the Reservation to offer solutions to complicated problems.
Unemployment rates on the Indian Reservations in South Dakota like the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Reservations stand at nearly 80 percent. The two counties those Reservations reside, Shannon and Todd Counties are two of the poorest counties in the United States. If you don’t have a job with one of the school Districts or the Tribal Government you usually don’t have a job.
With so many uneducated adults, many tribal programs suffer with inadequate leaderships. The future and success of these tribes and these people rests in the hands of the youth obtaining an adequate education.
With no blueprint in place for successful college experiences, many Native American youth drop out before they complete their degrees. For those that do complete their education, employment opportunities are usually found outside the Reservation, further compounding the lack of educated people in these areas.
Young people on Reservations across the country do have college opportunities, but many fail to complete their schooling, and ultimately return to the Reservation to scratch out a living.

A lot has been said about the fact that unemployment in America has gone beyond 10% during the ongoing recession. Critics who have accused individuals of panicking to early point out that unemployment stood around 25% when the great depression stuck America in 1929. Well, as compared to the great depression, the current recession does not seem to be a very bad deal.

However, there is a huge difference in the impact of unemployment today as compared to the impact in the past. For starters, life has become a lot better in the past 80 years. Hence, more and more persons have taken it for granted that they will enjoy a happy and satisfactory life after completing their education.

Secondly, there were very few superpowers in the world when the great depression hit the global economy. Even today, there is only one superpower worth its name. However, there are many pretenders from Asia and South American countries. In such a scenario, a deep slump in the economy combined with unemployment can lead to serious problems.

Thirdly, globalization has spread all over the world and more and more individuals are taking opportunities to work and earn money in other countries. The internet and technological innovations has made this task a lot easier. Today, it is possible to outsource work to any Asian country without even stepping out of the office.

Needless to say, instances where individuals would have been employed because there was no other alternative have come down. Today, employers have the option of using a global pool of talent. Needless to say, this has increased the impact of recession.

Finally, there is a growing fear that uncontrolled unemployment combined with high fiscal deficit is going to lead to vicious cycle which will pull the economy into further stagnation. Since the Asian countries have already shown resilience, there is a growing fear that U.S. may lose its primacy to other countries because of unemployment.

Want To Retain Employees Better? Focus On Their Welfare As Well As Your Profits

If you behave like an employer who simply treats employees as assets to be exploited and convert it into money, then do not be surprised if your employees treat their jobs as nothing more than a means to earn their monthly salary. If you want commitment and a desire to do well in your employees, you will have to modify your terms and conditions accordingly.

If you start laying off employees at the first signs of economic trouble, then you can rest assured that your employees too will be interested in finding better jobs all the time. If you want employees to stick to you no matter how tough the conditions are, you too will have to stick with them. Rather than laying your employees off and trying to save profits, you should be prepared to four were your profits as long as it helps you create employee loyalty.

The point here is that you should indicate that you are trying to do your best to avoid cutting down on jobs. If you focus on these small points, you will find that your employees stay loyal to you when the conditions improve and there are better paying jobs available.

Cannot Find A Job? Start Earning Money On Your Own Until The Economy Improves

You cannot continue sitting idle at home just because you have not got a job, right? You will have to find ways to earn money so that your family’s finances do not suffer. You might have saved money and you may be in the position to continue searching for a job for the next few months without stressing your finances.

However, using your savings down to zero does not make sense. You never know how long the bad patch is going to last. Hence, you should start taking remedial action once you were making regular use of your savings for day to day expenses.

What steps should you take? You will have to identify some things that you are not comfortable doing. For example, you may not be comfortable going below a specific salary amount. Or, you may not be comfortable with a specific job profile. You should prepare this list and you should be prepared to do anything to continue earning money as long as it is not included in the list.

If you are not comfortable working for a low salary, you should not hesitate to become an entrepreneur instead. You may not have the skills necessary to become about an entrepreneur immediately. Do not focus on the monetary aspect of employment alone. You should also recognize that you need job satisfaction. If you do not enjoy this, chances are high that you will find excuses to quit despite the problems and complications that it entails.

Of course, if you know that you are most comfortable in a job, you should continue searching for jobs. However, make sure that there is some money trickling in so that your finances do not suffer in the long run.
